Yesterday my pontiac G6 would not start at the grocery store and I had to get a tow. The lights, dashboard, radio, heater, wipers all work the check engine light comes on and I hear a single click when attempting to start. The tow truck driver attempted to jump start the car and it didn;t work.
The car is not keyless start and does not have a remote starter, I replaced the battery on the fob approximately 6 months ago. I also noticed that the steering wheel is not locked and I can wiggle it side to side. Prior to this the oil pressure light was coming on intermittently but when I checked the oil it was fine.
At one point 6 months ago I had an oil leak but had it fixed in Feb and had the oil changed again about 2 months ago. When I took it to the dealership for the light they had told me that it was okay and that it was a shortage and that fixing it wasn't top priority as I had other issues to fix brakes, tie rods, ball joint which I did at another cheaper mechanic.
The light did not come back on for months since and just recently started again prior to the car not starting. This is the only vehicle I have and I need it to get to work.How to tell if she wants you to make a move

Now when we start it sound like the starter is sticking likeit. Wants to start but won't. There are times it would work. At other times, it doesn't work. When I try to charge the battery overnight, it would work but the problem resurfaces when you don't expect it.
It clicks but will not start or turn over. The problem seems to be something to do with the power lock and the security systems in the car. When I turn the key, it clicks but won't start. I was told There are no warranties left in the car. After reporting this problem with other G6s, GM was not prepared to even pay for diagnostics to learn what the problem is; no wonder people are not buying GM vehicles any more. My next vehicle, definitely, will not be a GM. It's either Ford or Japanese. Call a mechanic found out that if the theft symbol is on in dash it has to do with ignition switch and alarm device, well all these other GM and Pontiac made cars get all sorts of recalls but not this model year or the vin with the letter N in it and im getting tired of shelling out hundreds of dollars to fix something that's not worth it due to something that should've been fixed the first year it came out and not years down the road.
I just want this recall for the ignition switch and key fob put into action already and have this issue gone away so i can drive my car, otherwise I'm going to file a lawsuit against GM for something they should've dine years ago and not waited soo long to start doing recalls period!

I believe your "no crank" issue is the passlock security system has locked things down because of what it perceived as a "battery swap".
The P code is a mass airflow MAF problem code. The odometer "error" message may be indicative of other issues. Your more significant problem now is likely the passlock problem. Once i replaced the thermostat and added coolant it hesitated but started right up. Get under the car and have someone dump water in then have them look for leaks utop while you look underneath once you fix the problem the car should run once more.
I now have the car back at home! The but same thing is happening. I have replaced the water and it seems to be leaking from the water pump area.
Always pressure test your radiator cap too, btw. Then check the cylinders for water and the exhaust as suggested.
In theory, what might have happened is that adding water over two weeks may have diluted any coolant left to the point of being useless and lowered your engine temp boiling point so that without the cap, at 65MPH you may have boiled out all or most of your water. Also look around the front of the water pump, especially the shaft and the weep hole s on the side of the shaft and see if there are signs of water dripping corrosion.
I would check the compression before spending money on the coolant leak. I have checked the spark plugs and they are wet and there seems to be very little water.
Should i still do a compression test with water in there? Finding very litle water and wet plugs is like being a little bit pregnant. You can probably borrow a cooling system pressure tester at a parts store or a tool rental place. I think ETCG did a video on pressure testing cooling systems. A compression test of your cylinders is also quite useful. You can rent those kits as well in some places.
If there is a leak in your head, you should pull it or have it pulled, inspected and take a look at the cylinders to see if any parts in there are toasted. I have jacked up the car to see where the water is coming from but could not pin point the source, i did noticed that some water was coming out from the middle of the exhaust. I will do the compression test as soon as i can get the money to do so. Make sure you still have water in the radiator. Do that with all the cylinders one at a time and see if you get water squiring or leaking out of the plug well.
How hot did it get before it shut down? I had a head gasket failure last November and I knew as soon as it happened. Good eve.The thermostat is a cheap and easy item to replace and it is a common culprit in overheating issues. You also know that you have a radiator that leaks coolant. This can be much more of a problem than you might be aware. When coolant leaks out…and you then add more later, Air pockets can and will develop within the system…whether they be in the Heads or block or what have you.
When this occurs many bad things can happen the pocket can get near the water circulation pump and render it Useless…instead of the impeller being submerged in coolant…it is spinning in AIR…which does NADA for the cooling of the engine. Sometimes cooling systems in cars actually have an air bleed nipple…Hondas are famous for this little device…and it gets used an awful lot when you fill those cooling systems.
I would remove the thermostat and replace it…while you have it out…pour coolant into the hole left behind when you removed the T Stat…this will go a long way in removing an air pocket.Freelander tegralok
On top of all this…and in fact I almost forgot…NONE of the Burping process will work with a break in the system…it needs to be closed…SO the cracked and leaking rad needs to go along with the T Stat.
So…replace the Rad…Replace the T Stat…and then Burp the system…Until you replace the rad and close the system…it will remain open via the crack in the Rad…and there will be no way to remove any air pockets in the system.
2007 Pontiac G6 wont start
I ended up with a stubborn air pocket in the area of the water pump. I ended up having to pull the radiator hose off the casting just above the water pump. I then poured coolant into the hose which filled the radiator and into the casting where the hose attaches.
That cured the problem. To get at the hose you have to detach the air intake duct and swing it out of the way - very easy. I really urge you to replace the radiator ASAP to avoid overheating damage to the engine.
Edit: I really doubt you have a water pump or thermostat problem. You have to get creative. Good plan to focus on fixing the radiator problem first. A leaky radiator causes more problems than just having to refill it once in a while. It also causes the cooling system to not be able to achieve the pressure the car designer engineers intended it to operate at, which it needs to achieve the cooling capacity needed for the engine to operate without damaging heat sensitive parts.
Heard back from the shop, aside from the radiator it just needs a waterpump and thermostat. Just my two cents but that car has Dexcool in it. Any air introduced into the system can cause gunk to build up and block the cooling. This is not the old days when you could just ignore a coolant leak.
I think you need to get it to a shop where they can flush the system and determine if there are passages blocked, replace the radiator and thermostat.
